3 Capitalist Market: Four Conditions Needed for Efficiency Concept Map Planning - Case Teaching ipe-basic, gec2008, map-ipe political economy, economics, role of government in the market contemporary United States
Summary: Analytical frame: economics concepts are grouped as four conditions needed for efficiency in the market -- and each is outlined to show the market failures and government failures or interventions that cause a lack of efficiency: public goods, private property, free entry, supply and demand, price reflection, rent seeking, subsidies, protectionism, tariffs, asymmetry of information, externalities, etc. Next, the four conditions are matched with cases in a detailed "Case Mapping" table. Each case is also outlined for its policy options and impacts. A second table outlines factors in the 2008 global economic crisis (speculation, derivatives, CDOs, leverage limits) as market and policy failures, including moral hazard.
