Summary: This overview is a specialized table of contents to assist review of database materials for lesson planning. In outreach to local high schools, USC student volunteers in the Teaching International Relations Program (TIRP) are equipped to teach analytical tools using cases and activities for decision-making and problem-solving. Because the database serves a variety of projects, custom tags will select limited collections designated for TIRP topics. Guides for selected items will point to further database resources.

16 Trent Lott, the Southern Shrimp Alliance, and Vietnamese Seafood Concept Map Case Reading - Other glo-trade, glo-dev, mkt-govt, fopo-basic globalization, political economy, trade, protectionism, dumping contemporary United States, Vietnam
Summary: Case illustrates free trade v fair trade dilemmas regarding development: the irony that successful development leads to greater market competition from new producers - which in turn, encourages old producers to lobby for government intervention and seek a policy of protectionism. In this case, the US successfully supports a Vietnamese industry so that Vietnam develops a comparative advantage in the international market and competes effectively with US producers. Guide points to application of several frames for political economy.
